Bruce Mines sees federal funding
Sault MP Tony Martin congratulated Bruce Mines Mayor Darrin Foster and council for its successful $1.2 million Building Canada Fund project to streetscape and improve the downtown Trans-Canada Highway and connect the two core commercial areas of town. The project received $400,000 in federal funding and Martin supports the larger stimulus funding application for a multi-use municipal complex. The project includes a badly-needed new community hall, fitness centre, emergency centre and marina facilities.

A new report says the out of wedlock birth rate in Michigan has gone up nearly 10% in the past 15 years. The report by the Kids Count In Michigan Project found that smoking by pregnant women dropped by more than one-third, while repeat teen births declined by more than a quarter. The study reviewed 15-year trends from 1992 to 2007 in all 83 Michigan counties.
Orazietti announces Agawa Tour Train funding
Sault MPP David Orazietti says the McGuinty government is investing $60,000 to help Tourism Sault Ste. Marie promote the Agawa Tour Train in Southern Ontario and the United States. The province is providing $60,000 to Tourism Sault Ste. Marie through the Ministry of Tourism’s industry partnership proposal program. The funding will go towards a marketing campaign that includes extensive print and on-line ad campaigns supported with appropriate collateral material and public relations. Orazietti says the revitalized attraction will provide a boost to the local economy by helping to bring more visitors to Sault Ste. Marie.
Provenzano nominated as Liberal candidate
Christian Provenzano has accepted the nomination as the Liberal candidate for Sault Ste. Marie. MPP David Orazietti was also in attendance to show their support. Provenzano says he is overwhelmed by the support and encouragement that members of our community have shown for my possible candidacy and he says he can think of no greater honour than to represent the people of Sault Ste.Marie and I will work tirelessly in the coming months to earn their trust and their votes.
